About Us

Genesis Lutheran Church is a congregation that resulted from a merger of three Lutheran congregations from the East side of Detroit, Michigan. The three congregations were Grace Lutheran Church, St. Luke Lutheran Church and St. Mark Lutheran Church. Building Genesis Lutheran Church

Our History Timeline

May 1982 – July 1982: Preliminary “merger” interest discussions

October 6, 1982: Establishment of a “Futures” committee – three members from each congregation to share knowledge and ideas for moving forward

November 15, 1982: Pastor Skip Wachsmann accepts the call to be the pastor of a Tri-Point Parish

March 27, 2983: St. Mark has its last service at the former site

June 26, 1983: St. Luke has its last service at the former site

July 10, 1983: The first Sunday all three churches worship together on a permanent basis

October 30, 1983: Genesis Luther Church becomes an organized congregation with a celebration “Charter Sunday” service

June 8, 1986: A “ground breaking” ceremony is held at the new church site

January 29, 1989: Dedication services held of the new church building of 7200 Mack Ave.
